Anyone want to participate in a drive configuration poll? ;P How do you use (or plan to use) your Mac Pro drives?

Me, NON RAID....

250GB boot = OS/System & Applications
500GB 2nd drive = Users directory (Docs, Music, Photos, etc)
500GB 3rd drive = Small scratch partion; the rest as a backup of 2nd drive

You?

Now: 25OGB Boot - OSX & Apps + 250GB for data, I have a Lacie 500GB for backup

Soon: 250GB + 250GB Raid 0/1/2/3/4/5/6... (don't know which yet) for boot + 2x1TB for data, I'll get an external NAS 1TB for backup then another when I go above the threshold

I'm already close to filling the 250GB data diak and plan on heavy use of Logic so I'll beed the space

I don't need space, but do need speed... Here's what i'm planning for my Ocho (which i got shipment notification for this morning :D ):

2x250GB @ 7200 Raid 1 -- OS needs max redundancy
2x73GB @ 10k Raid 0 -- database server needs max speed
1x320GB USB -- backup
various 250GB FW/USB -- network storage

ordered the raptors today (with rebate at newegg)!

Why the 73GB Raptors? The 150GB Raptors are only $35 more:

500 gig - applications and utilities
500 gig - photos in raw and jpg
500 gig - mirror of photo drive

what about things like your Users directory -- your documents and Itunes music library -- do you guys keep that on your main boot drive or move that to another drive to keep it separate from your system disk?

System/Applications: 1x 500 GB Western Digital RE2 (5000YS)

Projects: 1x 500 GB Western Digital RE2 (5000YS)

Backup: 1x 320 GB Western Digital 3200KS

Boot Camp/Windows: 1x 320 GB Western Digital 3200KS

Geez, you guys have a ton of storage.

Boot drive, 80gig 7200, mainly because all i want on this drive is the system.
Work/content 250gig 7200

Other than that, all other data goes to my G4 as a backup server.

3x 750GB Segates. Everything is on one drive. The other two drives are exchanged (about every 2 weeks). They are used to clone the main drive every night. The uninstalled drive is stored off-site. Make sense? I'm what they call "back-up aware" (aka paranoid?).

I went back and forth on this myself... I actually don't want the extra capacity. I have no need for it (it's a non-media server), and don't want to be tempted to use it (and have to come up with a backup plan). If need for capacity @ these speed ever does grow, i will get two of those, and swap the 73's to the OS. In the mean time, it saves me $70 on a system i'm trying to max out while staying under budget.

320GB Seagate - 10.4, music, video etc....
160GB Seagate - Backup (ready for time machine)
160gb Maxtor - Windows XP Pro

2GB Ram due to upgrade to 4gb in next few weeks.

Quad 2.66 Xeon

I gots me some

750x3 in RAID 0
750x1 boot drive Mac and Win
500GB LaCie FW drive (portable)

Please tell me you have a robust back-up plan. The 750x3 RAID 0 scares me the most. One drive failure and you loose the stuff you care about most (presumably that drive is non-OS/non-App stuff). Is that what the 500GB is for?

Call me back-up paranoid...and RAID-0 weary.

interesting... most people keep their Users just on the main drive. maybe i'll stick with that.... and instead of saving projects/documents in the Users "Documents" folder, I'll save them to the 2nd drive.

music library & mail library can stay on main drive
