My mac mini is getting hot and makes noise. Is this normal for a mac mini. What do I need in order to send it to warranty, under applecare.
Thanks

G4 or Intel Mac mini?

My Intel Mac mini doesn't get noisy until the fans hit 3,000 RPM. That's also setting the fan speed manually. It seems the Mac mini would rather bake at 190° F then spin up the fans.

Got my intel c/solo mini to 76°C a couple of days ago- fans were at 2200 rpm & it was fairly noisy, but most noise was coming from the CD drive I think (was wondering if I should be putting CD's in in case they dribbled out the bottom as a puddle of plastic ;) )

Mine is a Intel core solo but pretty noisy. How do you control the fan speed, see cpu temps and fan speed.
Thanks

Sounds like fan wear and tare, will applecare take care of it.
Thanks

My Mini got kinda noisy when I ran it at 3000rpm and 100% CPU usage. It's to be expected when you stick a hot CPU like that in a tiny case. You shouldn't hear the fan under normal loads, but if you're really using that sucker, don't be surprised if it makes a ruckus.

Mine makes noise, even if the cpu is idle. I am very... I went to applecare and they said the mac seems perfectly fine. The problem I can hear the noise across the room.
Thanks

I have had my mini (2009) for a few days and it's whisper quiet .I am sure that will change but for now it is amazingly silent.

Did they take it in the back because the sales floor is very noisy. I'm sure your room isn't that loud.

Mac Mini hot and noisy

I have a Mac Mini G4 and it was getting hot and the fan very noisy. The mini when to sleep when it can’t handle the temperature, I guess, so that it was good because it prevents the Mini to burn. I took it to the Apple Store and they said it was something that controls the temperature and I have to replace the mother board which cost pretty much the same as get a new one. I didn’t have the money so I took it back home and I thought that whatever controls the temperature was working fine because it always put the Mini into sleep mode to prevent damage.

Problem solved.
So, after reading and looking I decided to open the Mini and take it apart. I found a video on YouTube that explains step-by-step how to do it. Well the good news is that I found it was clogged with dust, the processor and the fan, so not air circulation was possible. I used two cans of compressed air to clean it very well and my Mini started working like when it was new, very quiet. I did this more than a year ago and it still working fine. The trick is taking the Mini all apart, if you just removed the Mini cover you will not see all the dust that I’m talking about. I hope this help some of you to solve the problem.

Good luck!:)
