iPod 30gb, How to tell if it's a newer model?

Alot of retailers have the 30gb iPod. Walmart, Costco, etc. Is there an easy way to tell if it's a 5G one or an "old" one? Serial number series maybe? I don't want to find out they have cut the price to dump them and me buying the older model thinking it's the new one.

The new models have Jack Sparrow on the box. They also have a new style of headphones. They are the only obvious differences. Just look for Jack Sparrow on the box and you cant go wrong.
