MacBook Pro Yellow display

Okay, I've read the yellow display issues. My question as I am about to purchase a 15" glossy MBP is:
Is the yellow issue only on the glossy displays?
Is the yellow issue just a matter of calibration or is it a hardware issue?
Is it possible to see a screenshot of the problem as I understand there is a gradient issue as well?

Thank you, I do Video work, and while I know not to trust an LCD for color work, I do need a display that I can get somewhat close to accurate color while I'm away from the studio.

No, it has shown up on some matte displays as well. There was a thread with a poll about this, the glossy displays overwhelmingly had the yellow issue [I have the same issue, Glossy 2.2 and will be sending it back soon]. There was also a post in a different thread saying some stores are low or out of glossy display stock due to the yellow.

Hardware. I've tried every calibration out there but the yellow remains. A good calibration may lessen the issue but will not remove it entirely.

My first MBP had the Samsung glossy. The entire display was yellow out of the box, but calibration took care of it. I did not notice any additional yellow tint at the bottom as reported by others.

Unfortunately, my backlight failed after 13 days and I had to exchange the computer. I got a replacement with the LG matte because the store was sold-out of glossies and had no idea when more would arrive.

Bottom line: I think I like the LG better. It's not quite as bright and vibrant as the Samsung, but it is very pleasing to look at nonetheless. I've also discovered it does a better job with gradients. Guess I lucked out.
 
Is there anyway to know before you boot upor open the box whether you have a Samsung or an LG display?

No way to tell; no difference in serial or model numbers (not that we know).

don't scare me like that lol...yellow screen? how can that happen :(
how many defects are there with the new SR MBP? I just purchased one!

It's not it being a yellow screen that's the problem. A yellow screen can be calibrated and corrected. The problem is that it has a gradual yellowing of the lcd towards the bottom of the screen. This can't be corrected with calibration.

According to my Eye-One Display 2, the glossy is slightly brighter. My glossy measured 314 cd/m2 center screen at max brightness. My matte only manages 290.

Still, 290 cd/m2 is amazingly bright, especially for a laptop. Most people will have to turn it down some.

Interesting. Didn't somebody here post that they measured 415 cd/m2? That did seem way too bright and your measurement seems right given the specifications of the display.

Yeah, it's as bright as anybody would want to work with. Brighter and your eyes would be sore all the time. Amazing!
