I need to run 32-bit apps on newer macOSses and iWork 09 is one of them.

I thought it was a good idea to install my 32-bit jewels on a 10.14 virtual machine. It basically works fine (tried on Catalina host), but there is an annoying error with iWork 09, that doesn't occur when running iWork directly on 10.14 systems.

When I open Pages (4.3) and Numbers (2.3), their windows have nothing in them. All white. The documents themselves are ok.

The exact same thing (!) happens within a VMWare 11.5 client and a Parallels Desktop V.17 client (both clients 10.14, on 10.14 and 10.15 hosts). I suspect a graphics card problem and changed allocated graphics memory, client system memory and client number of cores — to no effect.

I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot!

Gary

Are you running these virtualization/emulations of 10.14 on an Apple Silicon device? I also need iWork 09 (as Pages 4.3 was the last good version of Pages (iWork) as it let you select non-contiguous text by holding down the command key. You know, just like you can do in TextEdit or even Stickies?).
