Hi, experts. Today, I tried out a free app that checks whether stuff on a Mac is 32-bit or 64-bit. The app is called Architect — it produces a detailed report on any app, if the app icon is dropped onto Architect. I dropped the icon of my Photoshop CS6 app onto it. I need to find out for sure because, when OSX Catalina is issued, it will not be compatible with any 32-bit app. Photoshop is important to me, and I should not like to lose it, or to start paying monthly for the privilege of using the current version (CC).
Previously, I had been under the impression that Photoshop CS6 was a 64-bit app (here, in support of this, I paste a phrase that I clipped from a website about Photoshop. It reads: Photoshop CS6 and CC only install a 64-bit version on Mac OS. This is the address of the website: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/64-bit-os-benefits-limitations.html)
However, the report that Architect generated states the following:
The following components are 32-bit only:
/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Adobe Photoshop CS6.app/Contents/Frameworks/ahclient.framework/Versions/A/Resources/arh
/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Adobe Photoshop CS6.app/Contents/Required/Droplet Template.app
/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Adobe Photoshop CS6.app/Contents/Required/Droplet Template.app/Contents/MacOS/Droplet
/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Adobe Photoshop CS6.app/Contents/Required/logtransportlaunch.app
/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Adobe Photoshop CS6.app/Contents/Required/logtransportlaunch.app/Contents/frameworks/LogTransport.framework/Versions/A/support/LogTransport.app
To me, it seems as if the report is saying only that certain components of Photoshop CS6 are 32-bit. However, the report certainly does not state that the app is 64-bit, and this puzzles me, because I am certain that, a long time ago, I had been advised that it is 64-bit.
Can anyone explain to me why, in the light of what the website says, it should turn out to have 32-bit components in it?
Can anyone also say whether, even if it were a 64-bit app, the presence in it of 32-bit components would make it incompatible with Catalina?
I hope someone can clear up this confusion for me. Thanks in advance, to anyone that can.
C.H.
