32 gig iPhone: when?

I am holding out for the new iPhone when it provides 32 gig storage -- this is my arbitrary way of getting more bang for my first gen buck.

That said I'd really like to buy a new phone soon!

Have there been rumors of a 32gig iPhone coming soon? Maybe the Product (Red) version?

Just hopin.

They're going to make all the money they can from the 16GB version, because they can. Once sales start to drop off, they'll introduce the 32GB. It's all down to market forces. They'll try to stimulate sales when the time is right. My guess is either October or January depending on how strong sales remain this Autumn.

As long as the iPhone 3G is selling like crazy, especially the 8GB models, there's not a reason to rush it too much (if you're Apple). Once demand slows down a bit, they'll probably start moving toward it. I don't think it'll happen any sooner than September, and that's a longshot. There's a chance whenever the annual iPod update is. Best bet is 1Q 2009. I don't see any chance of there not being one by this time next year.

Physics is the other issue. There has to be enough space to fit 32GB of flash in. I've heard that there isn't enough room to fit 32GB yet. So flash has to get smaller as well.
 
Ahh, Space. The final frontier.

I'd be happy if it was by first quarter 09. Wouldn't be happy if had to wait until June 2009!
 
dude, I mean for real, how could anyone here pssibly know the answer to that question? Do u know how many times that question has been asked? Any response by anyone would be pure speculation.

Perhaps a call to apple directly could help?

You can always wait for the next model, but when the 32gb comes out, why not wait for the 64? or the 128? Infact, why bother with 3G at all? Why not just wait for the iPhone 4G?

NOW you're talking! ;) The Problem is that I want a new toy -- I really do --but the 3G ain't doing it for me. It's just not *new* enough. Looks and feels too much like my original one. 32 gig might tip me over, 4G definitely would.

I'll upgrade June 2009 probably.

As for why ask the question, well it is MacRumors, isn't it? And some people seem to have the inside track.

Excellent answer. I was going to say somethings just like that! Although I would have added that when 32GB flash memory prices get a little cheaper so Apple can increase their profit margins even more!!

Well, to put in nicer terms

Buy it if you want it

I bought the original iPhone and LOVED IT

The new iPhone is out so I will buy the new one because I want it and have the money

The original iPhone was used often and well worth the price
 
I heard on another rumors site 9 months you'll hear the announcement and then it'll ship in 3-4 weeks.

Wow, way to bring up a dead thread for no reason. Anyways, there will not be a 32GB iPhone until someone invents the technology. Currently the iPhone is using two 8GB memory chips, 16GB ones in the same size/format do not exist.

and. a 32gb version will probably be $399.

and you're gonna be waiting a while.
 
32GB Chip is only at sampling stage

Toshiba, who seems to supply all the NAND RAM for Apple Portable Touch devices, has just announced 32GB NAND production plan with samples being sent out in this month(i.e. September).(Note: iPhone has only a single memory slot as opposed to touch which has two)

So I think the announcement will be packaged up for the soon to be released 'product that is going to reduce the profit' margin. Or more realistically next year...
