Is There Anyway To Close A Mbp Without It Sleeping?? I Download A Lot Of Things And It Takes Awhile And I Hate Having To Leave It Open Because If I Put It To Sleep It Pauses The Downloads????? Please Help Is There A Way??

Be careful not to let your MBP overheat while in this state. Its cooling mechanism is more efficient when open. Just FYI...

Dido, it makes it look like your starting a new sentence with every word and then we end up reading it like the early Windows narrator accessibility software. 😕

It is completely possible to do this. By having the external monitor attached the computer stays awake. But, it's still not recommended for extended periods of time, due to heat dissipation as mentioned.

What do you base this on? It is my understanding that this is one of the designed modes of operation. Does the recommendation come from Apple?

Apple says that you can use it like this however much you like. And, to be sure, the heat isn't designed to come out the keyboard, but the vents at the back. In theory you should be fine, I just *feel* more comfortable not leaving it closed all of the time. YMMV.
