MBP won't stay asleep

My new MBP won't stay asleep when I put it to sleep. The I hear the hard drive and fans turn off then it stays that way for a few seconds before it turns right back on. Anyone else having the same problem or has a solution?

Known problem due to the laptop waking up as soon as the magnetic latch is moved - so if your lid moves slightly then it'll wake up.

Best way to sort this is to turn off the option that causes the laptop to wake when the screen is opened - so you manually have to wake it by pressing the power button.

Load up Terminal (found in Utilities)


To turn it Off (type in terminal)
sudo pmset -a lidwake 0

To turn it back to the default On
ON : sudo pmset -a lidwake 1

I tried that and my MBP still wakes up after I put it to sleep.

Anything connected, like USB hard drives? Or is anything connected by Bluetooth (like your mobile phone) or mouse?

By default, the MBP is set to be woken up by Bluetooth devices.

I have a usb keyboard and mouse plugged in, my magsafe power adapter, and external speakers. Taking out the keyboard and mouse doesn't do anything.

Does it do the same when you press the power button and select "Sleep" manually?

Yes, no matter what, if the screen is up, it just wakes back up.

SMC reset worked for me too

My MacBook was not sleeping properly when closed. SMC reset has fixed it. Thanks

Hmm, not fixed for long. Will try another SMC reset. Not sure if related, but my Bluetooth module is very flaky at the moment as well.
