Hey guys the same old question 16 vs 32 ram (for the 16”)

I mostly use tons of chrome and tabs I run a single windows virtual machine with parallels which is very important to my work flow and must be snappy. Would 32GB ram for this work scenario is beneficial? Thanks in advance!

What do you need to do in windows?

I run windows server virtual machines to do various things in an enterprise environment with 8-16 GB of virtual memory (for the VM allocation). What are you doing inside the VM?

32 GB will be better most likely, but whether it is required and how much better "depends".

I run the same environment and just came from a 2018 13” MBP to the 16” with 32 GB RAM. Night and day difference in responsiveness. my work had a 25 GB database app running all the time as well on the Mac....and I got beach balls all the time. With the 32 GB RAM, beach balls are gone.

pretty basic stuff but a lot of it (few portable Firefox and other basic stuff)yeah giving the virtual machine 16 GB will be pretty nice

Sounds good... I’m definitely very close to Pull the trigger on the 32

I run Win 10 full screen in a separate space at all times via Parallels. In addition, I'm frequently (but not always) running Server 16 and/or Win 7 and another VM via Fusion. Coming from a 2016 15" w/ 16 GB of RAM and using a 12/4 RAM and 2/2 CPU split between MacOS and Windows, I was impatiently waiting for a 32 GB option.

I now have an 8 core CPU w/ 32 GB RAM in my 16" split 4/4 CPU and 24/8 RAM and don't regret it one bit. If you take advantage of Parallel's resource optimization tool, you can give Windows whatever it needs. While working in my VMs, I normally keep one safari tab, imessages, FT, outlook, and music running in MacOS.

Here it is now (one Fusion VM) and it's hardly breaking a sweat.

Great info much appreciated

I came from a 2014 13" with 16 GB of RAM. I initially went for the 16" 2.4 32GB as I ran lots of VMs running Win 10, Server etc. In the end I saw I could drop to the 2.3 and go up to 64GB for an extra £130 so I did that. Probably don't need all that RAM but as they were apple refub units and I save a packet I thought why not!
