I have one. I'm positive. No, I'm not a hypochondriac, I'm just positive. Every single symptom perfectly captures the way I tend to think and act...

Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).

I had never heard of it being an actual disorder until my cousin said that he thinks I have it.

After reading all the symptoms and such, I felt upset. It suggests treatment with a therapist. But I don't necessarily feel that I need treatment. I have no problem functioning in society. I have plenty of friends. And people SEEM to like me.

Have any of you had experiences with personality disorders? Narcissistic Personality Disorders?

Thanks,
irain

Sounds like you seem fine to me, but if your worried about it, you could always go see someone about it.

A self diagnosis of a personality problem isn't usually accurate, considering that while you read about the symptoms, you will be looking for evidence of it in your personality.

Yeah, there's no point in labelling yourself. Get a professional to do it. Also this isn't aimed at you, but avoid the temptation to label yourself as an excuse for your behaviour. I speak generally.

I wouldn't think that someone that was a narcissist would recognise that they need help?

Well, he hasn't sought help yet. But if you do, or even just go to find out then it might cancel out what you think you have.

from what I've read of you I think you are definitely narcissistic, but so are a lot of people, especially kids in their late teens.
The actual disorder is pretty dark. Don't go labelling yourself just yet. May be wise to speak to someone though.

edit:

I took an abnormal psych class. Everyone was warned from the jump that learning about various disorders will inspire people to look within and often find bits of themselves in these disorders. It was a good warning because sure enough, everyone started wondering about themselves. ("oh sh***, I'm OCD" etc) It's like a horoscope, sometimes they fit even when its baseless because it's bound to get some small detail right. Everyone has quirks and flaws, try not to blow them up and fit them to you. Let someone else do that. :p

As iBlue says, talk to someone who knows about these things before labeling yourself.

While reading any medical book, I come upon several diseases/illnesses that fit me to a "t". I still haven't died, but man, those books that reak havoc on your brain.

If you really think something is wrong, go to a professional. If not, beat your friend up for suggesting it all.

I got diagnosed with ADD/ADHD at age 19. The entire test (part was an IQ test, and part was the ADD test) was 10 hours, but I really don't know when the first test ended and the last test began since a 10+ hour test to test a person for ADD is kind of......ironic.

Get a proper test done. You really can't diagnose yourself. I never even thought about having ADD until my ex-roommate at uni told me that I might have it (his brother has it).

not completely ironic. Their is a reason they do it that way and that reason is to intentionally stress you and causing you ADD to kick in. Testing adults for ADD is a lot more difficult that testing a child.
I was diagnosed by when I was like 7 or 8 ADD by though the testing. This along with being tested that I was also dyslexic as well.

My cousin used to compulsively park diagonally at school with his Lada. He went to see several specialists who could not pinpoint the source of his disorder, until one finally put a name on it: Narcissistic Personality Disorder, or NPD.

Personally, I wouldn't call it a personality disorder, you are just different like all of us are, perhaps just slightly more different out of the current society context.

It irritates me to no end how every other person has some sort of disorder these days (or at least thinks they have) You're fine, you just have problems parking your car in a reasonable way, nothing to panic about though, you'll get over it.

You only have a personality disorder if your behaviour interferes with your quality of life. By the sounds of this....

.....that is most certainly not the case.

You might however be a hypochondriac, which you can get help for. Again only if you find yourself worrying about your health so much it interferes with your life.

Taking up two spaces? That's it? I routinely take up six spaces. But then, I drive three cars at the same time. Chained together.
