Does anyone know if the apple stores here in the UK will have the new iMacs in now or will we have to wait a few weeks for them to get shipped over here?
Thanks.
Thanks.
I ordered mine online yesterday and today I woke to find a shipment notification email, so it's shipped. Furthermore, both the email and the UPS tracking site show that it is due to arrive tomorrow! Sweet. They must have a stockpile already somewhere in the UK. By the way, I ordered the standard 2.4GHz 24" model.
Don't say things like that! I'll be ordering one before lunch at this rate....
Get one ordered, you know you want too
I ordered mine last night. Lower spec 24" with 2G memory and a wireless mighty mouse. My order confirmation says it will be dispatched on the 14th August for deliver between 20th and 21st. The price is great compared to the previous 24" imac. Can't wait
Just noticed this and you're right, the top end model is basically a few hundred quid more expensive because of the RAM, HDD and the slightly faster cpu.
So are you able to order RAM for these now from places like Crucial and eBuyer? What sort do we need?
So tempted.....
The new iMac takes DDR2 5300 SODIMMs. This is the same as the current MacBook Pro takes.
I ordered 2 of these from eBuyer...

Crucial do them too but I think eBuyer is slightly cheaper.
I agree, the new price is great. By the way, I wouldn't recommend ordering memory from Apple for three reasons...
1) Based on this admittedly stupidly low sample of 2 people, it seems you will get the iMac much faster if you buy the stock model with the 1GB RAM.
2) Apple RAM is a total rip. To buy 4GB for your iMac from Apple it is a ridiculous £540!!! I ordered 4GB from eBuyer and it's costing a grand total of £130. Save yourself literally hundreds and buy RAM elsewhere. Furthermore, even though I'm only paying £130 I'll still have the original 1GB chip left that I can now sell, saving me even more.
3) In the keynote Steve himself points out how easy it is to access the RAM slots on the iMac. I put my own RAM in the previous 24" model and it was amazingly easy. I believe the new model is the same except now there's only 1 screw to take out instead of 2.
Ah, great link. £65 for 2GB? Brilliant. So if I ordered that plus an iMac I can have 3GB of RAM. Even better!
Or does the RAM have to be "matched" these days? Like, 1GB + 1GB or 2GB + 2GB (rather than 1GB + 2GB)?
Is it too late to cancel with Apple? Thanks for the Advice![]()

The RAM does not have to be matched. In my previous 24" iMac I had 3GB (as that was the max).
I've just found the user manual...
so if I order two of those 2GB I'll be maxed out and still be able to sell the 1gb that was previously installed?
Cool, can you tell me where please? I'd like to read it and see if there really isn't a magnetic side to attach the remote to now.
