I thought I'd share my thoughts on the new Kodak printer I purchased. This is part of the line that uses the cheap ink - $10 for black/$15 for color ($23 for a combo pack). I went with the lowest-end of the three -- I print from my OS, so I didn't need the LCD panel on the printer.
It's a printer/copier/scanner, and retails for $150. (I got it on sale at Best Buy for $129.) I had a problem after first setting it up. The first couple prints worked fine, then nothing -- the color and black light kept blinking. I called Kodak and they sent out a new printhead/cartridges. Everything seems to be working fine now.
My main complaint is the speed. Takes a while to warm up, and the first page in a print job prints very slow. Otherwise, the print speed is decent. Not great, but decent. I had also heard about how noise the printer is. I suppose it is noise, but it wasn't anything that bugged me much.
That, so far, is the extent of my complaints. The scanning software works just fine with photoshop, and it scans very quickly. Just a few seconds for a 300dpi 8.5x11" doc. And the resulting scan looks great. As for printing, it has a very easy-to-use 4x6" paper tray for single photos. The resulting photo print is fantastic! I was surprised at the quality. The speed, again, was decent, but nothing amazing. I also did a couple test photocopies, and I'm pleased on that end, too.
The machine is a little on the big size, but it looks nice. Since it's replacing a stand-alone inkjet and a separate scanner, I come out ahead on the space issue.
I can't give any long-term impressions yet, but if you're looking for an inexpensive printer/scanner, this is a definite one to look at. And the ink price is very hard to beat. Of course, the first complaint will be that if one ink color runs out you have to replace the whole cartridge. And this is true. But I've found that my usage tends to be fairly even with the colors. And with the cartridge being so cheap, I just don't care much.
So there you have it. I recommend this printer.
