Serious Problem With Powerbook Lombard, Please Help

Hi all, I recently came home from college and setup my old powerbook G3 lombard for my mom to replace her Rev A bondi imac. It seemed to be fine, until it started taking 3-4 times as long to wake from sleep and would freeze around 4-5 times a week. I tried a reinitialization and eventually thought the HD might be going so installed a new IBM 20 gig drive. Things seemed ok but now its freezing constantly and when it wakes from sleep any devices already plugged into the usb ports wont work!!!! Then I keep getting type 2 errors when I try to use any programs upon waking up!!! I am running OS 9.2.1 on it as X isnt fully compatible and am fed up with this damn thing, I ran conflict catcher with no success as well.

Have you tried resetting the Power Management Unit?
