I can't seem to find a way to get the ipod touch to store higher res versions of my photos. itunes obviously automatically formats pictures to the touch's screen resolution(480x320), which is alright but kind of deters from the whole zooming function, because all zooming in is doing is blowing up the low res photo. I'd rather have a larger res photo and zoom in on it and still see it at full quality(like when you zoom on a high res image in the touch's safari browser).

FilemarkMaker.

I suspect it's because the CPU in the touch can't handle the large file size. If you have the option of using the large file size, the browsing and the touch feedback wouldn't be as smooth.....

Nice trick for Apple to mask the low CPU power.. the next ipod touch surely will be able to handle large size images.

Still *****ty that apple didn't mention the max image size in their tech specs..

FilemarkMaker.

If you have a mac, it seems to be a good program.
There is also something called URI kitchen which does the same thing and works for windows or mac. It is a little less intuitive but should still work.

What it does is it saves a file (jpeg, doc, many possibilities...) as a bookmark which you can transfer to safari on your touch to view. It also works offline.

In principle, this is what it should do. I haven't tried it on the ipod but it works with Filemark Maker so this should work as well.

Tell me how it turns out:
I can't try it yet because I have yet to receive my ipod.

EDIT: Forgot to mention. This program will allow you to see the pics with a better resolution. You will be able to see when you zoom in.

See the before and after pics with Filemark Maker
