if im viewing a website and they have flash video i want to save, how will i do this. i cant right click and get info there specialized player wont allow this. any help?

wait til it's fully loaded then open the cache folder. the video file is likely the largest one there. copy it to another location and change filename to .flv.
if you use Safari then just view process and copy the process that takes the largest chunk.

once everything is loaded...
in safari navigate to "window"--->"Activity".

in that "activity" section there should be a list of all the things that have been downloaded. it is in here that you can double click the item of your choice, and it should:
1. download itself
or
2. open in another window

if option 2 happens you can simply go..."file"--->"save as" and then save it on your computer and it should be sweet.

hope its not too confusing...

oh wow that is really quite wierd. quite often the size is just shown in MB, and not in exact form.

so read closely it might be there.

Some sites seem to be able to block showing in the Activity Viewer intentionally or not. Others (YouTube, etc) work great with it.

SAVE FLASH VIDEOS FREE - No Software Needed

THIS TUTORIAL WILL COVER HOW TO SAVE FLASH VIDEOS FROM ANY SITE NO MATTER WHAT BROWSER YOU USE.

When you watch a video from youtube, google, youporn...ect the video once COMPLETELY downlaoded is ALREADY SAVED to your computer in a hidden directory. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS MOVE IT.

Use the TERMINAL application from applications/utilities folder...its easy. You will only need 3 commands: cd (change directory=change folder), ls (list whats in the folder), and mv (move)

***you can copy/paste these commands into terminal***

Tiger

1. Start Terminal type "cd /private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporaryItems" enter

2. This will take you to the folder with the flash video type "ls" enter this will show the contents of the folder. (The flash videos will be FlashTmp1, FlashTmp2...and so on) Choose video 2 for example.

3. type "mv FlashTmp2 ~/Desktop" enter

THATS IT! The file will be moved to your desktop; rename it,play it, covert it, ect.

Leopard (slightly more difficult)

1. Start Terminal type "cd /private/var/folders/ee/" enter

2. Type "ls" enter. Look for the folder with a long strange name LIKE eeQUOonjE-GWvpRuzmR29+++TI (it changes).

3. Type "cd eeQUOonjE-GWvpRuzmR29+++TI/TemporaryItems" enter

4. This will take you to the folder with the flash video type "ls" enter this will show the contents of the folder. (The flash videos will be FlashTmp1, FlashTmp2...and so on) Choose video 2 for example.

5. type "mv FlashTmp2 ~/Desktop" enter

THATS IT! The file will be moved to your desktop; rename it, play it, covert it, ect.

hope this helps; email me & let me know sdterminalhelper@gmail

Or Safari/Window/Activity, and Option-click the flash file... Honestly.

I can't get that ever to work.

It shows the video in the button on the bottom but when I chose it and give it a download location - a windows slides down and looks for a director to find a decoder. It seems to be looking for PC directory and it all locks up... every time.

depends how secure the website owner wants them to be. got any examples of when it doesnt work? maybe i can help :)

Hi! I tried using the terminal but after typing in what you listed I kept receiving a message stating there's no such file or directory.

This is the video I'm trying to save on my hard drive before it disappears forever...

http://www.archive.org/details/openmind_ep1096

I've only ever saved youtube videos before and those were no problem, this video just keeps opening new windows rather than download when I go to window/activity/click on largest file.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Uhhhh...

Okay i just realized I can scroll down and download the file of that video in multiple formats.

saving flash movies via terminal

re : previous post

i followed the instructions what to type into terminal and also got the
reply 'this file or folder cannot be found'

in the activity window?

much thanks

Help me with the impossible

I have done everything above... for both firefox and safari. I have downloaded flv downloders, firefox plugins (at least 3)... nothing works for this site. I don't know why they are so hellbent on not allowing people to watch their free videos without using their site and the stupid streaming. It's an Irish TV site (no country restrictions)

-When I do the terminal steps, after typing "ls"... nothing is listed. It just shows the cursor again  (tried loading on both firefox and safari for this)
-The activity pane on Safari shows nothing above 99kb and it's a .js

Someone please help. Try and download any video from this page (each is only 15 mins or so) and then tell me how step-by-step! PLEASE AND THANKS!
http://tg4.tv/main.aspx?level=seacht

P.s The reason I need this is because my processor is too slow to view streaming on their site properly. It's ridiculously choppy and fullscreen is impossible for me!! I can view it best on camio browser with everything else closed on my computer, but even then it's still "frame-y" if you know what I mean.

I have a g4 ppc. 10.4. It's probably because of my super small cache too.

i tried aibrean. i have come across this method a few times - where it loads the stream directly from their server and doesnt need to be an element or something. im not aware of the work around as of yet :(

well i'm glad to finally have confirmation that i'm not a massive moron at least! I guess i will wait around until someone finds a cure.
