iPod touch Trust me, I'm sorry - iPhone apps in the iPod Touch

I have pretty much spent around 6 hours today trying to get iPhone apps on my iPod touch. It has been jailbroken, and installer works fine (haven't even bothered to use summerboard) and I have followed people instructions on how to install the iPhone apps, but they are a little vague. I searched everywhere, but nothing helped. I have downloaded the right files (the application folders for maps, mail, etc. are in /Applications in my iPod Touch), the .bundle file in under preference bundles, and the framework file is under Frameworks on my iPod (all using Cyberduck).

I then open terminal, type in ssh -l root 10.x.x.x , (I dont acually type the x's) hit enter, and then it asks me for the password. when I type in "alpine" it doesnt show up on the screen, but when I hit enter a "#" sign pops on the left side of the next line. Then, I type chmod -R a+x /Applications/*, hit enter, nothing happens, I quit terminal, reboot my iPod (slide to shut down) and none of the apps are there. I have also tried the same steps, except instead of the first chmod command I type in "/bin/chmod -Rf +x /Applications/" and nothing happens either. I am about as fed up with this as all of you guys are with seeing threads like these, but please help me :(

edit: got mail, maps, weather, and notes on it, but mail crashes before it even loads the app.
edit2: got mail working. the first download I used was bad.
 
No no no, youll have to get a program called cyberduck for mac. Just use the ip from your touch to login, as well as "root" for the username and "alpine" as the pw. Like this



Then, navigate to your apps section, and add what you want, like so:

i have used ijailbreak and am unsure of what steps i need to do after this to put 3rd party and iphone apps on it.

All the guides which I have found explain how to jailbreak the ipod touch before the automated program, which are really confusing.

It would be great to stop all the questions on this forum if someone who has completed it, write a step-by-step guide for people like me who have NO IDEA about ftps and terminal.

I am using a intel mac, with cyberduck freshly installed.

I figured out where you are messing up.

when you are in terminal, you have to replace the asterisk at the end of the command with the application you want to set the permissions for

e.g.

type these commands

chmod -R a+x /Applications/MobileMail.app
chmod -R a+x /Applications/Maps.app
chmod -R a+x /Applications/MobileNotes.app
chmod -R a+x /Applications/Stocks.app
chmod -R a+x /Applications/Weather.app

it won't give you any acknowledgement of anything after each coming, just a new line with a #. after entering all of those commands, restart your ipod. the apps should work

Thank you so much! It worked seamlessly. When I saw that little * thing I though it was weird, but did it anyway. I knew something was wrong. Thanks for all your advice!

...except mail crashes. I'll look into that later.
 
The mistake I made was dragging into the wrong LIBRARY(S). Make sure you've dragged the bundles and frameworks into the LIBRARY in the SYSTEM Folder, not the LIBRARY in the root folder or the other one (there are three).

Igot it working! I downloaded a different mail.app folder (appearantly the first one I used was bad). thanks for all your help.

I went to that, but because it was a jailbreaking program and my ipod was already jailbroken, I didn't see why I needed it. I'm going to use it though, so I can get summerboard on my ipod now.

i still cant access my ipod from terminal. as you can imagine, i am not familiar with terminal.

should i directly type chmod -R a+x /Applications/MobileMail.app for example?

ssh root@ip of your ipod
password:alpine

/bin/chmod ...... and the the rest

Had to use /bin/ as it wouldnt work without.

Didnt mean to sound impatient before. Just give me a yell if you need a hand getting the programs to work e.g. the iphone apps. All mine work 100%

i did it and it went just fine...but mail still crashes before entering. i think the file i downloaded is not good.

where can i get a working one?
