Update tonight?

A user on another forum posted a pic of his iPhone attached to a Mac running Leopard, and the phone's contents showed up in the finder, and not in a user friendly disk mode...plists, system files, etc. all showing. I doubt Apple intended for that functionality, and it makes me wonder if they'll update tonight, for that and/or any other reasons.
