I have a JB 1.1.1 and have all the files to update and break 1.1.2. However, everything on my current Touch works fine. No problems. What would I gain by going to 1.1.2 and jailbreaking again.

Anyone that has gone this route, I would appreciate some comments.

I am wondering too. The only 2 improvements I have heard are adding calendar events, and patching the TIFF exploit.

And if you've jailbroken your Touch, then you probably have these already.

That's why I'm not upgrading to 1.1.2 or until a decent jailbreaking method for 1.1.2 is available.

Another poster mentioned speed improvements in Safari and the dictionary app. I have heard this a couple of times from others as well.

It's quite possible that Apple will continue to optimize the system software with each update, I know this was the case with the other iPods.

Isn't the TIFF exploit how jailbreaking is possible?

I was under the impression that the TIFF exploit was what made jailbreaking the ipod touch possible. I don't think that it is correct to say if you have a jailbroken ipod then it includes the TIFF exploit patch already.

Once an iPod Touch is jailbroken via the exploit, the exploit no longer needs to be there. So you can then patch it to prevent other (possibly malicious) code being delivered thru the TIFF exploit.

A few things:

- 1.1.2 is FASTER... I don't know how but, I can tell that it is faster.
- Syncing my iPod touch seems to be a LOT faster now. I started copying 13GB of Data, then I went to the bathroom and when I got back, 1/5th of it was already copied!
- You get to see your battery status in iTunes now... sweet
- Magically, more memory is available for running Apps on your iPod touch... hmm... maybe Apple did some house cleaning and optimized it
- Less buggy Safari - No more stopping music when visiting certain web pages.

Also, you guys... jailbreaking 1.1.2 is a piece of CAKE. I did it last night and the whole process probably only took 10 minutes and I copied the 1.1.2 iPhone apps on and everything... My iPod is running better than ever!

Here's the link to the new Jailbreak: If your iPod is already jailbroken, then you're half way there. http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8664

On a side note: Can anyone please tell me where Sketches.app went? I can't find it in Installer anymore.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found Sketches again: http://sketchesapp.com/Home.html

To theSpaz,,

I started this thread and am already jailbroken in 1.1.1. I hope this is a simple question. The site you listed has the folder for the jailbreak, do I just start at step 3 since I have Installer app on my Touch and load OktoPrep and go from there, or do I need a clean install of 1.1.1? You said if we were already jailbroken, we were half way there. Elaborate. Please!

It seems to me that the Oktoprep sets up 1.1.1 for the jailbreak of 1.1.2. So, I just have to install the Oktoprep and go to step 4 and then update to 1.1.2 and then jailbreak. Anyone with an opinion would be appreciated.

iPod Touch Update 1.1.2

- this update also allows you to sync from the 'Info' tab in iTunes:

- Contacts - from Yahoo / Windows / Outlook address books
- Sync Calendars
- Sync Internet Bookmarks
- An Advanced section to do a one-time sync for Calendar / Contacts / Internet Bookmarks

Thanks, one last question. I am on a PPC. Is that going to be a problem?

hey dagored, you should defenately upgrade, everything is soo much faster, safari is amazing... I know you have heard this a lot and there is a reason why the iPod touch is faster and that is because the procesor has been made faster from 400 MHz to 413mhz and bus speed has gone from 100 MHz to 103. I would most def recommend upgrading. Now it seems people with ppcs have had some trouble early on. However it seems it has all been figured out head over to ipotouchfans.com and under jailbreak you should find a walkthrough. If you don't find it right away do a quick search, I just saw it few min ago. Enjoy a faster iPod touch!

I just upgraded, and also find everything is faster. Not a night and day difference (because the Touch was great before), but definitely worth doing. I think code optimization is probably more responsible than the increase in clock speed (400 -> 413 is a rather small bump.)

You know it's a real Mac when you can say after the upgrade that Safari seems snappier! ;)

Upgrade to 1.1.2 or stick with 1.1.1

I would definitely echo the words of the previous posters - you should upgrade to 1.1.2. Everything seems slicker, faster and more reliable than in 1.1.1

The actual Jailbreak itself is very easy to do (and I'm no hacking / modding specialist!) if you just follow the steps in the readme file.

All the best,
JJP

I haven't really noticed any difference between 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 yet. My Touch has always responded smoothly and quickly. What ever improvements there are, are under the covers for me right now, and I'm sure it's all good.

does anyone else notice that things in the installer take ALOt more time to download then in the 1.1.1 version or is it just me?

I agree with everyone else re the improved speed of safari. Also everything seems much more stable, third party applications are not crashing as often. The global keyboard options in 1.1.2 are also pretty cool

I remembered the global key in the keyboard it was already there.
It is worth it to upgrade.

Take your time and be patient!!
Once you do it, you will see that it was very worth it!
