I think in technology with televisions and monitors we get in this bigger is better:D. And it makes perfect sense in those cases, larger computer monitors will show more information.

The thing is, these both will show exactly the same amount of information unlike say a large monitor vs a small one.

Sizing in this case I feel is mostly fashion (look and feel)

So maybe we need more time with how we are going to use the Apple Watch, and each may find they have different needs.

I very early came to the conclusion I will not be actively using the watch, but mostly quick glances for important information and the notifications, or using Siri to ask questions or send quick message.

I just feel smaller will be perfect unless you have large wrist and fashion wise it would look oddly small on you, or you have vision problems.

So really it comes down to how you will be interacting with the watch, thst will be different for each person. I know when I first starting thinking I was like oh I want a nice large screen, bigger the better, but now I'm really thinking it's not necessarily needed or even better.
