I just posted a 3D Game shootout between the fastest, new MacBook Pro (2.8GHz) and three other of the fastest Macs:
http://www.barefeats.com/mbpp05.html

The page only has ETQW 1.5 and Halo UB 2.03 currently. The Quake 4 (1.42) results were weird so I'm holding them back until I do more testing. I should have some WoW numbers posted later today.

Based on testing so far, it's about 21% faster than the previous fastest MBP for 3D Gaming.

I hope to add the new MacBook 2.4 with 9400M results later this week (which is one reason I tested at 1280x800 as well as 1440x900).

If any of you have older MacBooks or MacBook Pros, I'd like to see your results for the Cinebench 10 OpenGL test (cinebench.com).

It's 5PM Pacific Coast Time. I just added WoW 3.02 test results using my GPU stress test. (See page link above.)

I realized you are probably just another user and not big outfit but what would really be useful is a comparison of the current models head-to-head. Any possibility of that?

Thanks.

2.8 deliver times?

Yes.. thanks for the info...

Since this tread is one of the few with folks that ordered the 2.8 GHz machine, can you give me an estimate on expected delivery? I ordered (through the university) a 2.8 GHz (with the additional adapters for the monitor) on the 15th and don't know a thing about delivery. For some reason the IT folks can't/won't give me the tracking details... very frustrating...

Can anyone guess-tee-mate an ETA??? I have to leave abroad for a week on the 28th and really hoping to get it by then as the o'l PB is on it's last legs.

Thanks,

Pete

I ordered my 2.8 the day of the announcement. I did normal shipping to Southern Calif. It shipped out Thurs and arrived Monday of this week.

Here's the results for the 2.8GHz MacBook Pro running in both 9400M and 9600M GT mode:

UT2004 Inferno 1440x900 Flyby Max
9600M GT = 157 fps
9400M = 71 fps

Prey at 1440x900 High Quality
9600M GT = 69 fps
9400M = 29 fps

Halo at 1440x900 High Quality
9600M GT = 113 fps
9400M = 50 fps

ETQW at 1440x900 High Quality
9600M GT = 63 fps
9400M = 22 fps

Kudos to MacWorld who did a nice 3D Game comparison of most models of 'late 2008' MacBook and MacBook Pro in both GPU modes:

Dang-it.... mine (2.8 GHz with the 320 GB 7200 rpm HD) was ordered the afternoon of Jobs presentation, through the university (not a personal purchase)... lucky me :)

Anyway the guy from IT called this afternoon and said it was was still in production and was unlikely to be delivered before the 29th.... blast... looks like I'll have to get the old PB working again before my trip on the 28th :(

It does seem odd how Apple prioritize orders, a lot of folks have there systems already and mines still stuck in production. Could be the spec I ordered... any thoughts?

Odd I have a friend that ordered one exactly like yours (and mine for that matter) on the 16th and his is here and will be delivered in the morning... mine is a day behind in Alaska right now I think.

Odd that yours is taking so long, unless education purchases are lower on the totem pole.

It could be the upgraded HD, or the additional cables for the new display port... I dunno, but it's a real pain, esp. since they won't give me any way of following the progress for shipment etc. Last I heard, via the IT guy on campus was thatit was 'in production' no news since yesterday.... and the week is rapidly drawing to a close. I guess it will be a nice present when I get back from Japan.... I just hope this o'l girl lasts for another trip abroad... shame about the 13 hour flight, I never seem to get the 'powered seats' so I've got 10 minutes of battery power :(

YEs you can run crysis.

Played crysis warhead today on gamer settings in 1024 resolution. It ran a little slow but still playable. Turning some extras down makes the game very playable.

Bit better than I'd expected... I guess it's better in newer games due to the respectable increase in shader speed

thanks for posting your results! I just got the 2.53 ghz mbp on Tuesday and have mostly just been installing everything. I installed vista ultimate 64 bit and was wondering if you used drivers different from what installed from the leopard disc. If you did, what drivers and what steps did you go through to get the best gaming performance? Thanks!

i wish barefeats would compare the 2.5 GHz old version with the 2.53 GHz new version. This would be a more precise comparison of the GPU's and the DDR3 Ram vs. DDR2.

Mine's (MBP 2.8 GHZ) still over a week away, this really crap, as so many folks already have their units already. I'll rethink ordering through the university next time. Looks as tho' mine will arrive ~ two weeks after everyone else's that ordered the same day as me (day of release). Having said that, it's still 'in production', so how knows...... uuuugh :(

any heat issues?

running vista or xp has anyone had any heat issues with the 2.8? Has anyone gone to 6gb and posted benchmarks?
