I don't know if any of you guys (or girls) has any experience in designing shrink sleeve labels for packaging, but it's very complicated, time consuming and almost impossible to get a perfect result with just 2D software )let's say Illustrator and Photoshop). Esko Artwork has some special software for this (PackEdge) but it's very pricy (over US$7,000)!!!
Being that I just started with 3D software (specifically Maya) for product mock-ups and soft proofs of labels, I'm not that proficient at all with this software and was wondering if it would be possible to achieve similar results with Maya.
Eskos's Pack Edge software seems to be just 3D software that has some special commands geared towards dealing with this distortions (I might be oversimplifying here). In reverse order, Maya might be able to do the same thing with the proper technique.
Before I spend countless hours trying to find out if it can be done in Maya...Any of you 3D guys out there think this is possible?
TIA
