Has anyone used 3D Studio Max under VPC? If I can avoid my rotten PC I would be in heaven. I'm working with 3DMax 6 (which can not save down to version 5 files) at school and only have 3DMax 5 at home. Also, are there any Mac 3D modeling programs like Max (Maya / Lightwave...?) that can save / export files as 3DMax 6 files?

For 3D work, I've have always heard folks advise against software emulators such VPC. Animation and 3D requires alot of horsepower that can only be obtained from hardware.
You should chek the Maya website. I think they offer a free or cheap, learning edtion.
