3G / 3GS / 3.0 encryption... hardware or software?

does anyone know the details of the 'full phone encryption'? Was also wondering if the 3GS is hardware encryption or is it software only?

Is Encryption Only for Those Using Microsoft Exchange?

I wish we had more detail on this feature? I would also like to know if you can choose what gets encrypted? Address Book only for instance? Googling finds a little speculation and some inference that it isn't all that granular in control. Also stated are questions how robust it is. I guess once someone has physical access to your hardware it is hard to keep things locked down.

I'm posting this because I'm curious about the encryption stuff too.

I have a 3G running 3.0. I just noticed this.

So at least it will encrypt the backup on the computer....
