Thought we needed another 3GS thread, so...
I'm sure I can't be the only one, so did anyone else decide they weren't going to bother upgrading when the 3GS spec was announced, along with the upgrade prices?
--------------------------------
I was all set for the new iPhone, but have to admit that after the WWDC I thought I could probably live without it, or at least wait until my 18 month O2 contract expired, especially with the lack of "cheap" upgrade options for 3G owners. I was pretty level headed about this, so imagine my surprise when I found myself in the queue at the Apple Store in Regent Street this morning
My financial justification is based on hopefully getting a reasonable price for my 3G on ebay. At first I was going to buy-out of my existing contract (ebay should cover that) and take out a new contract. But then I did some maths - buying-out and starting a new contract worked out just a few £ cheaper than buying PAYG and keeping my contract, BUT that would have left me with a new 18 months contract, and the same problem when/if Apple bring out the next iPhone in 12 months time. Whereas, with PAYG I'm only tied into my contract for the next 6 months, so no costly upgrade in July 2010, just a new contract. I hope I got that right!
Oh, a hint for anyone O2 looking to buy out of their contract; after 9 months you can drop the "level" of your contract by one level; so if you're on £35/m you can go down to £30/m. So do that first, then buy out - saves you £30 or so.
