This is a bit random but last night i was checking to see if i had any cracks on my 3G as i know this is common "no cracks" which i was very pleased with, i used my mini maglite which is super bright, to look around the edges where the plastic meets the chrome bezel and the plastic appeared to be red and i could just make out the motor bracket for the vibrator, i could also make out a square barcode through the plastic about an inch below the apple logo, the plastic around the edges that meets the chrome is obviously alot thinner than the back as it appears to be almost transparent and red?, i think i have solved the cracking issue, thats why you only get the cracks around the edges, the plastic is too thin.
