3G battery low

My 3 year plus G3 batt is running down faster and faster.
My options are: a back-up batt, replace the batt (means I must do it myself,NO, or send it away), up grade to a 4G.
I would rather wait for the real 5G, I guess next year.
Suggestions as to replace Batt or back-up? If I up-grade to 4G I begin a new 2 year contract with ATT.
