3g does not work on unlocked Iphone4

I bought my Iphone 4 in US. Now i have jailbroken and unlocked it (ultrasnow and cydia) and checked with an airtel microsim. I have no issues with calls or wifi. but 3g just would not work...i tried edge too and it gets stuck at 'server not responding' or 'safari could not open the page'..i dont recollect the exact words....is it something to do with the unlock? someone plz help me or drop an email @ causticangel123@gmail.com
