So someone paid me to unlock their iphone but theirs was on 4.0.2 and i looked around trying to see if i could downgrade without a shsh file saved locally or on sauriks server, and stumbled upon dough boy's thread. The first video he posted DID NOT WORK but i changed something to see if it might and a member said SHSH does not need to be saved and someone said it does so i dont know which is which but anyways here's the directions

1.
download tinyumbrella-latest version
itunes latest version
iphone 3g on 4.0.2
go to felix and download 4.0.1
enter the iphone into dfu mode
edit your host file so it looks like the one below--i used wordpad with admin mode on windows 7
i deleted
# 127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com and
gs.apple.com so i only had this

##Hosts file edit

127.0.0.1

#74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

i dont know if this is needed but i saved the 4.0.2 shsh
and ran the tinyumbrella server on admin mode
that is my exact host file that i am using to do this
shift click restore on and point to 4.0.1 and bam
it works
ill post up pics and some videos if ppl want the videos, they're long though and i mumble haha
but for tinyumbrella i do have 4.0.1 and 4.0.1 saved for MY iphone4 along with the 4.0.2 saved for the iphone 3g
it might work for a 3gs but i don't have one so i can't test it out

If you did more research you would realize 2G & 3G phones don't need to worry about SHSH hashes to downgrade. That security check was started with the 3GS, added to IPhone 4, probably next iPhone and so on.

oh yeah i heard about that
so idk, this works and someone might find it useful haha

I heard that before but not how it can be defeated.
And if that's the case then why is Cydia saving shsh for iPhone 3G if it can be easily bypassed?

Probably, just in case Apple comes out with better software security check. Good idea to be proactive. Better be safe than sorry.

Lol, at OP. Good job posting your hosts file that clearly shows you pirate adobe apps.

Remember AJ, look at the boatload of jailbreakers who can't even manage to navigate their phones to jailbreak.me website which only requires a single swipe to jailbreak.

Whoa ! Anything requiring more than 2 steps, they are so lost !

So, Saurik has those covered by instituting the saving of 3G hashes for firmware 4.x.x

No doubt about that.
Some questions here lately amaze me:)

I hear you but nobody is showing me how to do it incase I need it in the future:)

Sure, Dev Team would post something if it changes, but right now, it's seems pretty straight forward using Redsn0w to 4.0.2 on 2G & 3G.

i meant I changed the original post and removed the adobe files, though idk how it'd really matter

I'm sure this is just to be annoying on Apple's part and to stop the dumbest of the jailbreakers out there. Guess they are hoping to shrink the pool a little bit.
