I just got back to NY from a business trip where I was in Chicago and Rochester, Minn.
I noticed especially in Rochester, Minn, a small city that:
- I was connected with most bars to 3G all day.
- Battery life was pretty solid.
In NY:
- On a daily basis my phone is switching from 3G to EDGE and back.
- This switching of network connections seems to suck battery life.
I read the info on this site and others about the old software putting an enormous strain on the 3G towers especially in big cities where there are a lot of users. Apparently, the problem would be greatly reduced if everyone who had an iphone would update their software.
Hopefully all will be solved with 2.1, but if there are so many people who have iphones that don't update their software, I'm not sure how much improvement we'll see in connectivity.
I can't believe after the amount of money we're paying (mostly for plans) that I have to deal with such spotty connections in one of the largest cities in the world.
PS I started writing this thread on my iphone, got half-way done and my iphone's safari crashed back to home screen---TYPICAL! Come on Apple and AT&T get us what we're paying for!
