3G Iphone in China

I was wondering whether the upcoming 3G Iphone will be compatible for use in China if it's unlocked. From what I've read, China Mobile is using proprietary TD-SCDMA technology, which I'm assuming won't be compatible with AT&T's HSDPA technology. So I guess an Iphone using 3G in China won't be a reality till Apple makes a deal with China Mobile. Just wondering if anyone has any insight into this.
