just checking if the gps on the new 3G iphone is dependent on a data plan or Wifi like the ipod touch.

just checking to see because up here in canada data plans are quite expensive and i might use the gps alot. it would be nice if one could load maps of cities visited often.

Thanks for the Help

Ethan

well its kind of pointless to use the GPS (for tracking anyway) if your on wifi. But it needs the maps which are from a data connection. Unless Garmin or Tom Tom come out with maps you can download and run natively (which I hope happens SOOON) looks like you have to be connected.. I would love to use it as a GPS EVERYWHERE even when I'm in the boondocks..

yeah thats what i thought too. that the maps had to be downloaded or rather updated from the internet while connected. i wonder how much memory they use ? stupid rogers makes is very expensive to get anything over 400mb
