I would have thought more with the lines I saw all weekend, but what do I know. 1 Million is still great!

when they say 1 million sold, do they mean actually sold to users or sold to carriers?

That's a staggering number of phones for a 3 day period. Imaging how many more they wouldhave sold had they not had so mnay problems. I bet the reports kept a lot of people away.

Looks like AAPL is going to take off at opening. Bid/ask price is 8 bucks over Friday's close.

Apple usually includes any shipped to carriers.

That's 1,000,000 / 21 countries = ~48,000 phones per country or 16,000 sold per country per day over three days (assuming Sunday sales).

Obviously it would be far more meaningful to get a country by country breakdown.

It's more than the ~13,000 sold per day in the US for the original model to get the first million in 74 days.

sorry, but your numbers dont mean much. im gonna assume that the US has bought more than New Zealand, so doing an average over all the countries is really nothing of value

Piper Jaffray got it WAY wrong. Earlier this morning (before Apple's press release), they said their "channel checks" indicated total opening weekend sales of 450,000 iPhone 3Gs (200K in the US and 250K overseas).

Turns out Apple sold more than double that! So much for analyst's predictions!

Uh yeah, that's why I said we need country breakdowns. I assume intelligent readers.

It's just as meaningless a comparison when Apple says the first one took 74 days, since that was only in one country.

They would have sold 2 to me if the lines had died down.
