Looking on Amazon for the AT&T version of the Nokia 2610, I don't see 3G listed under its specs.

Product Description
The Nokia 2610 is a practical and stylish 2G device, in a classic form factor. It offers an outstanding balance of useful features and data capabilities without unnecessary complexity. The Nokia 2610 is a perfect solution for those interested in a sensible feature set without all the fuss.

It shouldn't matter. You can insert 3G sim card into first generation and it will work and surf just fine.

Must be relating to your phone settings.

This is falling out of the reference to iPhone.
