I picked up a universal dock today so I could swap my nano and my 3G ipod back and forth in one dock. The trouble I'm having is I can't seem to get my 3G ipod to charge via USB. It seems to sync ok, but it never charges. Should the 3g ipod sync and charge on the USB connector? My nano syncs and charges just fine in the universal dock via usb cable.

On Windows, iPod can't charge through usb. Don't know about Mac.

I recall 3G iPods don't charge through USB, only Firewire. Charging through USB was introduced in the 4G model.

Thanks. I'm disappointed to hear that, but happy that it is one more excuse for me to buy a new ipod. :)
