Hello everyone one of my friends just recieved a 5G black ipod for only $100 when he sent in his out of warranty 3G 40GB, what is with this? can I do it with my mini? has anyone else done this?
would it have to be out of warranty to be replaced with a 5G?

i think that it depends upon how much stock there is of the 3G's. They are pretty old now and i guess stocks are running thin. In terms of whether you should do this to get a new 5G, it is risky, as there is no guarantee that you'll get anything better than a 3G back for your $100.

For me though, i'd love a new 3G, they were easily the best designed ipods.
