iPod 3G iPod totally busted or salvageable?

Hey All,
I've got a 3G iPod that gives me the dreaded "exclamation point folder" icon, which I take to mean the drive is dead. Is there any way to attempt to salvage it? Any disk utilities that might resurrect it? I'm getting a new nano soon anyway, but I'd like to use the old 3G in my car if I can make it work again.
