3G JB/OS/unlocked on TM 3.0 need to go to 3.1.2

I need to upgrade to 3.1.2
all my searching brings up older info or not with an already JB and unlock. I have done all my own JB and unlocks on my wifes and my phone. Had no problems getting the right info before. Sorry

The firmware on a 3G can be upgraded and downgraded at will and jailbroken on any firmware version.

Use Pwnage Tool to make a custom restore 3.1.2 IPSW (preserves baseband)

Use iTunes to browse to it and install it on 3G.

Thanks, I did see a lot of info about the custom IPSW.

Pawnage tool is Mac?

Put custom restore IPSW on desktop, plug in phone, open iTunes, hold down shift and restore button, browse to custom restore IPSW. Don't choose 3.1.3 IPSW.

Hey DHL will this work on a 3gs as well? So what happens to cydia in this case since redsnow or pwnage tool aren't involved? Does it remain?

No, its completelly different for a 3GS model.
SHSH's come into play cause Apple wont let 3GS models update or restore to anything but the latest firmware out. So it gets more complicated when it comes to 3GS iPhones.

Can you elaborate? I have my SHSH's on file with cydia.

3gs already jailbroken @ 3.0.1. and cydia has my SHSH's on file. I believe it is untethered as my 3gs was purchased the first week of release amd does not need to be connected to itunes to reboot. I'm just trying to re-jailbreak and do a fresh install and my phone is acting all buggy. 3g and data networks wont work and have tried all methods to resolve this issue. So will the link I posted above work? or do I have to go through a more complicated method? Thanks
