3G Netowrk Coverage in the US

What will the be the extent of 3G network coverage in the US. Is it worth jumping on to? (I am moving shortly to the US from Australia and would like to buy an iPhone when I get there...).

Will 3G netowrks be centred around major cities? I am talking more about US National coverage. 3G here in Australia is pretty amazing in terms of coverage, I am wondering if the network in the US will be as comprehensive?

3G is pretty much as you described it as scattered around the big cities. A few suburbs to have 3G though. The united states is still far behind compared to Europe. I don't know how Austrialia's 3G network is, but if you say it is awesome, then it's not going to be good in America.
