So I've had my iPhone 3G for 1 week now, girlie coloured version
Overall I'm very impressed, I was using a sony ericsson w800 before that, and got fed up of the daily systems software crashes. So far the iPhone seems more stable, although not bullet proof. I've had many applications start-up, pause and then crash/vanish, but I put that down to 3rd party apps. I've only had one device crash, were the screen was just black and not responding. Holding down the top button eventually rebooted the thing. Still once a week reboot is better than my MBP at the moment
There are a few features of my 800 that I miss, mostly camera related, light, options, video mode etc. Also the removable storage was nice although in practice the iPhone shouldn't need that with 16/32GB space. Also it would be nice if the iPhone supported USB storage. ie just plug in USB cable and drag and drop files onto a disk icon. Forcing the use of iTunes quite upset me being a VLC flac based user. Still I'm getting used to the changes and even started using iCal as a result!
Mostly I'm surprised at the lack of Java support, I thought that was pretty standard on all phones in the last few years. Still this is Apple, who still haven't managed a defualt 1.6JVM on Leopard.
I do have one issue with the phone that someone might be able to help with, and it may sound strange, but how do I disable the cellular data connection when away from my nice free wireless connection. I found the option for disabling while roaming, but I want something similar for my home country. Having a pre-paid setup is rather expensive for data on the move...
cheers
Peter
