I apologize if this has already been asked, but I couldn't find anything about it. Ever since beta 1, it appears that my 3G service on Verizon is non-existent. I am on LTE about 90% of the time which works great, but when I'm on 3G no data works. I can't use maps or Safari or even iMessages. Is anyone else having this issue or just me?

Do you normally use 3G?

There have been times during the beta period where I have seen 3G appear at the top, when by all accounts it should have been showing LTE or at least 4G.

3G at all on LTE iPhones is a glitch, not an intention.

wat

How about if we don't have an LTE signal? Is that a glitch too?

A Verizon iPhone will never show 4G, only 3G due to their EDVO network. Only some GSM carriers like AT&T will show it when on their HSPA+ network.

I am on LTE probably about 90% of the time. Every once in a while since I've been on iOS 8 beta 1 I will notice that it shows 3G even though I am in an LTE area. I didn't use to have issues with 3G but now when I am on 3G I get no data and my iPhone will actually tell me that I have no data.

I think it may have to do with the beta. I'm on AT&T with an iPhone 5, and I don't think I've ever been in 3G, only 4G or EDGE. But when I went on the beta, I kept getting 3G in the status bar. But resetting put it back on LTE.

I don't quite understand what you mean by this. An LTE iPhone on Verizon will show Verizon LTE by the signal strength - which is 4G.

My iPad while on vacation lost LTE for a while and defaulted back to Verizon's 3G network. Which then showed Verizon 3G. When we lost 3G it went on to 1x which basically didn't work, but was only for a few minutes until we drove somewhere that had better coverage.

There also is no such thing as 'EDVO' it is EVDO.

It'll show LTE, but never 4G. GSM carriers started a marketing tactic that labeled their HSPA+ networks as 4G. Which it technically is. They then strong armed Apple into allowing the 3G symbol to be 4G. Verizon lacked any kind of transitional network and was not able to market their current 3G EVDO network as being 4G.
