Is the iphone3G the newest iphone?? Our local Walmart has the iphone 3G 8gig for $197.00. Thats the cheapest ive seen any iphone. I got the ipod touch 2g 8gig for $227.00. Would you recommend buying the iphone??

Yes, the 3G is the latest iPhone, but you do realize that $197 is all of $2 less than the standard price, do you?

With the release of the 3G, AT&T/Apple reduced the cost of the iPhone up front while increasing the cost of the plan.

Can you unlock the 3G yet? Thats the only downside...i cant afford it and i know my parents wont pay for 80+ bills lol. Ah its a nice thought but im perfectly happy with my touch.

I thought the cheapest was like 300? LOL i guess i need to stay up to date on this stuff.

Why would anyone buy a iPhone from wallmart. I would rather go to apple or AT&T not to a place where I can pick up a dozen eggs and tubesocks.

why would it matter? there are many more wal marts than apple/att stores id imagine

Do you really expect to get informed answers about features, rate plans, etc. from a Walmart employee? That's why I wouldn't even dream of buying an iPhone from there...

The 3G is $10 cheaper at Best Buy ($189 for 8GB and $289 for 16GB). They lowered their price to be cheaper than Walmart.

Or get the $99 refurb from AT&T (until tomorrow, on Thursday the price goes back up).

And assuming the phone you get doesn't come with 2.2 out of the box, a software unlock will be available tomorrow for it. If it comes with 2.2, you're out of luck unless you want a hardware/SIM unlock.
