I think those of us who are still using a 3G phone will be able to get faster cellular speeds now that the iPhone 5 is out, unless your area does not have LTE. I say this because I don't think a whole bunch of people using LTE will affect the people who are still using 3G.
 
Maybe in time, but here's some food for thought. Verizon's 3G still blows chunks despite all the Verizon users now on LTE. I haven't noticed EVDO improving speed wise at all over the last 6 months, for example.

You have to remember that as each user is being pushed to LTE someone else is going on the older network to replace them (either prepaid or whatever) and these companies will sell the snot out of the older networks until they decommission them.
