Does the 3 GB of ram make a huge difference on the iPhone 7+ ?

Better over then under.

That's like way back (2010ish?) when 4 ram was standard and now 8, soon it'll be 16.

I guess if everyone does a new phone every year it wouldn't matter. But I think for those who hold onto, or plan to give it second hand to family and friends, it's a nice perk.

Depends how you use the iPhone. Even 2 GB is adequate for some. It your a serious multi-tasked, then Three GB would be sufficient.
