3GS 1080p!!!

hey guys im a bit confused why this works, maybe you can elaborate on it for me.

I have the 720p video (1080x800) hack for the 3GS, I love it even though I dont see much detail difference between the origional settings, just makes me think im taking better quality video LOL

HOWEVER! if you take one of those videos go into windows movie maker (live 2011) and dont edit it, just save the file as recommended for this computer. It saves it as 1080x1440! just in the conversion from MOV to WMV it can tell it should be 1080p...

uploaded to youtube and sure enough its available in 720p & 1080p!

what made me think something was up, was when after I converted it to WMV the file size acrtually was bigger than the origional MOV.

A 4second MOV clip was 7.62M
Converted to WMV 11.8M

All you do is open the movie up in Windows Movie Maker and select this:

And you now have 1080p video from the IPHONE 3GS!

Hahaha. Umm, I hope you realize that you can't just resize a video/picture/sound file and expect to get more quality out of it.

All it does is add more noise and pixel upscaling to get to the desired resolution. You would have the exact amount of "good" information as before. This is why you can always resize something like an MP3 down from 256 to 128 kb/s, but not the other way around and expect the quality to increase. You can not add quality (read: information) back in.

And just because the file size grew, does not mean the quality increased either. Different formats have different levels of compression, not to mention because it upscaled it, it added more "bad" information into it, which would have increased the file size.

All of this is not to mention that true 1080p is 1920x1080 while 720p is 1280x720

while the sensor might be capable of it, i highly doubt the 3gs' cpu is capable enough to keep up with 1080p video recording.

also, wmv is a terrible file format. bloats files alot. try converting to xvid avi or something. you'll get the same quality, with like 75-80% of the file size.

okay with that said then, (which is the premis I was going on in the first post because I didnt understand y it would upscale it) is the 720p video TRUE 720p video taken from the 3GS? cause I cannot tell the difference in quality, I feel it is just UPSCALING the video as you put it.

and 1080x1440 is not 1080p

1920x1080 progressive is 1080p
you can also have full HD at 1920x1080i
