Hi all,

jst a quick query, can i use Absinthe 2.0.2 to jailbreak 3GS on 5.0.1?

Presently i use ultrasnow to unlock.

i was thinking i can create a custom ipsw through the latest redsnow and jailbreak untethered using the latest absinthe..

do u think this will work?

Below info is from another forum:

First, download the latest RedSnOw and run a tethered jailbreak. Make sure to check INSTALL CYDIA.
(Caution: If you are already on 6.15 (3GS users), DO NOT check "install Ipad baseband" - you already have it.)

When this is completed, refresh Cydia once. The total process will take about 5 minutes the first time.

Then search "Rocky Racoon 5.1.1" The package should come up in the query list.

Install this, reboot and you should have an untethered jailbroken device.

Make sure NOT to deleted or de-install the Rocky package. This is essential to the jailbreak.

ALSO: if you're an Ultrasnow unlocker, DevTeam has not released an update for 5.1.1 but an independent team has.

Add this repo: http://repo.iparelhos.com

Then grab the "5.1.1 Ultrasnow fixer" patch, install, REBOOT your phone and you should be good to go.

can someone confirm this works..
i rarely trust anything apart from what the dev team has to say so i am skeptical to use the ultrasnow fixer or the Rocky package..

works like a charm...
i used redsnow to create a custom ipsw to preserve baseband..
then used absinthe to jailbreak and ultrasnow and ultrasnow fixer to unlock..

faced no problems at all..

For a 3GS on 5.0.1, you use the newest Redsn0w
For a 3GS on 5.1.1, you use Absinthe 2.0.4

Your original questions lists two different firmwares, so don't know which one you are on

Ultrasn0w has not yet been updated for 5.1 or 5.1.1

Odd problem with 3GS and Absinthe 2.0.4

I attempted to jailbreak a 3GS earlier with Absinthe 2.0.4 (Mac version) & had a weird issue. Here is what I did:
Restored to 5.1.1 with itunes (stock firmware)
Activated the iPhone with sim card using itunes.
Jailbroke with Absinthe 2.0.4

The process completed and everything looked successful. Cydia opened normally and things looked normal. I closed Cydia & connected to a wifi network. Then I re-opened Cydia to run any updates, install SBSettings etc…

The phone did a respring for no reason & when the phone’s springboard popped up, Cydia was gone, the phone, music and a few other icons were also missing (not just white, actually missing). I tried to use spotlight to open both Cydia and the phone app. Neither came up. I rebooted several times and it never resolved itself. Plugging it back in to the computer and opening Absinthe again, it showed that it was already jailbroken, and

Any idea what may have gone wrong?

I did a fresh restore & the 2nd time everything seemed fine.
