Nope.

That sucks:(
Do you see them coming up with anything in the future or will probably give up and move on to work on the newer iphone models and leave the 3G and 3GS behind?

Honestly, with the new phones coming out (iPhone5 this year), the 3GS will be 4 generations old. I just don't see it being fixed (assuming it is even possible)

Basebands can only be upgraded. They can't be downgraded, or replaced.

Certain shops will replace the baseband chip for you, but they also have a possibility of destroying the logic board if done incorrectly.

As stated, this cannot be done to remove the iPad baseband. As of now, just as the warnings said, it is forever.

Ooh yeah I know, forgot to mention if he just wanted to update to 5.1 he could still do it by using a custom ipsw.

Replacing the baseband processor carries its own set of issues. UDID is partly based on the IMEI and Mac addresses; various hardware IDa are dependent in unique baseband data too. Anything that depends on these IDs (like official unlocks) will not function properly.

Does this downgrade only apply for those iDevice that are on the iPad baseband?

Would this downgrade also work for an iPhone 3G iOS4.2.1 baseband 05.15.04?

Depending if you have an old or new bootrom 3GS then yes it can. Sort of. You have to upgrade to the iPad baseband first and then downgrade the baseband. But your 3GS MUST be capable of upgrading to the iPad baseband. You need to triple check before you do anything with the baseband because if you mess up and try to put the iPad baseband on a 3GS that can't support it, you can fry your radio chip and effectively turn your iPhone into an iPod. Read the blog post regarding the baseband downgrade process on the dev teams's website.
