When I plug in Apple headsets that came with my phone into my 3GS it states that this accessory is not meant to work with this device?

I was going to order an audio jack from ifixit but I am not sure if it is an audio port issue or something further?

I reset the phone to factory settings, but it still comes up then I have no audio at all

The same thing happened to me except it was with anything I plugged into the audio jack or the dock connector. I took it to the Apple Store and I was told water had gotten into the audio jack and the dock connector. They game me a replacement phone, no questions asked.

I assume if I bring an out of warranty iPhone 3GS 32GB White to Apple, they will swap it out, but will it cost me $199.99 or less?

I am not sure it is worth it, probably better just to dump it on ebay as we all have iP4's so this is a spare? Unless I order the Audio Jack from iFixit, but if that is not the problem I will be out another $50
