3GS Bluetooth - Is this normal?

Why is it, when I got into my Bluetooth settings, it shows my headset but it doesn't say "connected"? It shows the spinning gear. Notice that the Bluetooth icon at the top is blue, indicating it is connected. I can use the headset in calls too. I'm worried that this is draining the battery.

I'm guessing that when you enter the settings it starts searching for things to connect to

but i could be wrong and probbaly am
 
I think it's something with this headset. I tried connecting an older Plantronics unit I have and it does not do this. It says "connected" in the settings.
I have contacted Plantronics about it.
