I hope that some forum readers can shed some light on a baffling problem.
I recently switched from 3G (which never had any ring tone problems) to the 3GS:
I am using iTunes 9.2.1 on a Mac Mini running 10.4.11
I purchased two ring tones, through the phone, (Bach's Cello Suite and Pink Floyd 3) -- and they worked fine.
Then i purchased an App known as RingTone Designer Pro and made a ring tone from Bob Dylan's All Along the Watchtower. It was a simple process and appeared to go well. I followed the instructions carefully.
All of these items show up in the ring tone section of iTunes -- and i have seen the Dylan ring tone uploaded to the phone. (I read in one forum entry that one should eliminate all information concerning artist and album -- so i did that.)
But following the App-made ring tone, NONE of the custom ring tones are accessible to me under Settings. All I get are the default ring tones.
I have tried re-loading several times (sometimes choosing ALL ringtones,
other times, Selected ringtones) but it has not made any difference.
Rather frustrating since I paid for the Apple ringtones and also paid for the APP to make my own; but currently the iPhone is not letting me use even the ones that it once recognized.
I am using the latest OS on the iPhone.
Does this make sense to anyone?
UPDATE: This morning i purchased another ring tone, through the phone, from iTunes and it successfully became my default ring tone (just as the Cello ring tone had when it was first purchased.) But none of the other ring tones, purchased or created, show up under settings and apparently i cannot repeat the downloads of the missing ring tones. Will take this matter up with Apple, of course. But I still hope that a few forum readers may have encountered similar problems with their ring tones and can shed some light on the problem.
UPDATE #2: Spent over half-an-hour with Apple's customer service for iPhones today. He had me uninstall the ring tone APP -- but it made no difference. The Apple ring tones i paid for through my 3GS phone still do survive a synching session with iTunes. I am to call back tomorrow and address the issue further.
